Yesterday I spent the day with a good friend. She happens to Muslim. She also doesn't look Muslim; she doesn't cover her head or speak English with an accent or have what most Americans consider a typical Arabic look to her. Thus, she could get away with confronting some US Army recruiters at a university where she is a researcher. She didn't look like a raving insane Muslim outsider; she looked more like a liberal anti-war American (which is what she is). She said to them, 'you're religious aren't you? How can you think of doing what you are doing when you know you have to face God on judgment day? Are you sure that God will say that what you did at this time was right and good? How can you recruit others to do the same knowing that God may not finding it pleasing in His sight?' They answered that they were doing what they were told. Within a few minutes a superior appeared and my friend realized that the conversation must end. After relating this story to me, she said, 'America is a Christian nation right? This is why we oppose Islam, because we support Israel.'
She reminded me of something I found astounding. I remembered that actually her point is quite well grounded in the Christian doctrine. I'm not going to pick out some obscure reference, or twist the interpretation of the writing. Indeed, in Paul's letter to the Galatians he writes, "There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." God doesn't care whether you are an American or an Iraqi. Your first allegiance is to God. I can't imagine how on earth any war can be supported or encouraged by anyone who calls themselves a Christian.
If you are a practicing Christian, and you support the war, please tell me what you're going to say to God to explain this. How is supporting an American military effort in Iraq following the teachings of Christ?

I understand your question and frustrations. I don't support the war, I am a believer, and I have the same questions.
